Grading PolicyThis year, we are implementing Standards Based Grading, which is based on the specific standards students are working on.
All of 8th grade is 100% assessments, meaning that all grades will be from projects, tests and quizzes. Practice work will be assigned, but not included in the grading process. What Standards Based Grading looks like in my room... 4: Complete understanding of the concepts, no mistakes. "I completely understand this and I could do 20 more just like this." 3: Strong understanding of the concept but making mistakes. "I understand the process but when I do it on my own I get a wrong answer." 2: Basic understanding of the concept but needing more practice. "I can start but then I get stuck. I'm getting there but I need some more practice on this, this, and this." 1: Very little understanding of the concept. "I'm trying to follow, but can you slow down? Can you show me that again? I'm not sure I know how to start." |
RetakesRetakes are a way for students to show they have understood concepts, even after the initial assessment that was taken in class. Students may take retakes on assessments (quizzes and tests).
If a student wishes to do so, they must complete the designated Retake Ticket for that specific assessment. These tickets are available in my classroom or can be downloaded on this website. Retakes may be taken at lunch, Ac Lab (on Tuesdays and Thursdays), or before school. I will take the retake's grade as the new grade for the assessment. It is the student's responsibility to come to me if they wish to retake.
